Tax planning for high earners and business owners

Tax planning means making decisions before the year ends, so your return reflects choices that lower your bill instead of just reporting what happened.

FAQ

Common questions

What is the difference between tax preparation and tax planning?

Tax preparation reports what already happened. Tax planning happens during the year, so you can make decisions that change the result before it is final.

When should I start tax planning?

As early in the year as possible. Many strategies must be in place before December 31, and some need months to set up.

Is tax planning legal?

Yes. Tax planning uses deductions, credits, entity choices and timing that the tax code allows. We do not use aggressive or unsupported positions.

Do I need to be a business owner?

No. W-2 earners with high income, rentals, investments or a side business can also benefit from planning.
